Let’s Talk About the Weather

Posted in Daily with tags on December 1, 2007 by superlark

It’s been very rainy and gloomy the past few days. Yesterday started our with a downpour. Hold on. It’s time for a third-person narration. Those are more fun.

The Story of the Stormy Day

Lark woke up at 6:46 on November 30th, 2007, to the pitter-patter of raindrops on the window. Actually, it was more ferocious than “pitter-patter.” It was more like PTSHOOO PTSHOOO, but those aren’t common sound effects. Lark decided to go back to sleep. Rainy days were sleepy days after all. Unfortunately, the seemingly two seconds she closed her eyes turned out to be 25 minutes. At 7:10, she jumped out of bed and threw on a tshirt, jeans, and a jacket. It was freezing in the room. The covers were much warmer.

She stuffed binders and textbooks (Dreadful. It was a 2-4-6 day, meaning all three of those disgustingly thick books had to be heaved to school. Simply dreadful.) into a backpack, an iPod into her right pocket, and a cell phone (with plenty of jingly charms and Pokemon key chains) into the left pocket. Then Lark sighed and dragged her stuff downstairs where there was a sizzling noise and the smell of fried rice. After brushing her teeth, she found her dad jamming a lunchbox with fried rice inside  into the little space left in the poor backpack. It was falling apart that thing. The strap was half ripped off. Stupid heavy textbooks.

Driving the in the rain made Lark nervous but she made it to school in one piece. It was still pouring of course and Lark had no sense to bring an umbrella.

“It’s San Diego,” Lark muttered. “The rain won’t last forever.”

Even so, the walk across campus to U.S. History soaked her shoes completely (there was a hole in one apparently) and the rest of her clothes became rather damp and uncomfortable. Her feet were numb from the cold and it felt terrible to be wearing wet shoes and socks.

Of course Lark had enough sense to (inconspicuously) take off her shoes in history and try to let her then (and her feet) dry off. Too bad after the 2 hour period, she was once again trekking through the downpour, getting soaked all over again. Oho! Calculus. Time to take off shoes again. Oho! The period’s over! It’s time to walk through the rain to the art room to eat lunch. Oho! Lunch is over? It’s STILL raining?

“This is terrible,” remarked Lark. Her shoes made half squishy, half squelchy noises as she walked. “I’m gonna get gangrene or something.”

In spanish, Lark panicked the whole time because she didn’t memorize her presentation. Of course, this last 2 hour period was a waste of time and a hazard to cardiac activity, because even though Lark was nervous about the presentation, there was actually no time for her turn.

Hooray! It was the end of the school day! And it was STILL raining. Lark was terribly disappointed there was no sun. She went home as fast as possible and changed into nice, warm pajamas. And she soaked her feet in a tub of nice warm water. She also made herself a nice cup of tea.

It was Friday. Homework could wait until Saturday. She glued herself to the computer from then until dinner, having great fun watching Avatar on veoh.

The End.

Hahahaha. I’m amazing.

Sick

Lark's illness D:

So this week is Thanksgiving break. And I’m sick. Excellent.

It’s about 9:50 AM right now. Ordinarily, I’d be at church. And later, ordinarily, I’d be at Chinese school. But heck, I’m sick. I’m not going to be at either those places. Woo. Doesn’t make up for the fact that I feel terrible though. I mean, my hearing is imbalanced now, I can’t breath through my nose, my throat is icky, and I’ve lost my voice. Bleh.

I got my T-shirt from Threadless. It’s pretty awesome. PILLOW FIGHT. And my parents are coming home tonight! Woohoo! So this whole week, I’ll be trying to catch up with my word count for NaNo, doing homework, doodling pictures, drawing more Doctor Rocket, studying for the SAT, making clay figurines, and even making plushies? Wow uhm, lots to do. Spend my time wisely yeah?

But first, it’s Sunday. I think I’ll go play video games. =D

Phantom Hourglass

Posted in Daily with tags , , on November 13, 2007 by superlark

I got Phantom Hourglass today! I got Phantom Hourglass today! I got Phantom Hourglass today! I got Phantom Hourglass today! I got Phantom Hourglass today! DANCE!

Maaaan, it is so much fun. The graphics are similar to Animal Crossing. There’s some chunkiness going on here and there, but the gameplay is AMAZING (pressing map against map! Egad!) and Nintendo really came up with every different way to make use of the touchscreen capabilities.

In other news, I’ll be walking 2 miles every day this week after school since I’ve lost my ride. Due to insurance? I think it is the topic of much ridicule. But anyways, my iTunes library wiped itself. Now I’m afraid to put in new songs in case it’ll wipe all the stuff currently on the iPod.

INSANE. I HAVEN’T DONE HOMEWORK YET. IT’S 11:08 PM!

Land Before Time

Posted in Daily on November 9, 2007 by superlark

Uhhuuuhuuu.booohoooo

I just watched the Land Before Time I again. I haven’t watched that movie since, oh I don’t know, 2nd or 3rd grade? That’d be eight or nine years ago. At the end I was sobbing my eyes out. It was crazy. Here I am, this kid in junior year and I’m crying over a dinosaur movie that was made a decade ago. But God, that movie is so innocent. It captures the essence of childhood dreams, or something to that effect. It’s a kid movie, but it’s got such deep, sad scenes. Also, the ending song is amazing. I love it. You can find it on YouTube but I’ve uploaded it to fileden too.

Argh. I love old cartoons. They have some meaning. The cartoons nowadays are nothing but slapstick humor. It’s kind of disappointing. It’s either some American adaption of a Japanese style kind of show, or it’s a dumb sort of short involving boogers. Not that those are always horrible. I just think they’re kind of shallow now. Also, the animation issue. Too much hi-tech animation. They need to bring back the old style of cartoons, maybe just for a little while. Argh. Animators have it hard though. I saw this ten second 3D thing that some kid made at the Art Institute in San Diego, and it took months to create. I guess I don’t have that sort of dedication, so I’m not going to be an animator.

I’M GONNA BE A DOCTOR AND SAVE PEOPLE.

Like those kids in northern Uganda. Gawwwd.

I wish the great eight would just cancel all the debts other countries owe them. I wish those people in the government (not just the North America and Europe, but those in Africa and South America) wouldn’t hoard all the money.

Also, I love Calvin and Hobbes. To Bill Watterson: I love you for making your comics. I’m glad you didn’t decide to let commercial companies make Calvin and Hobbed merchandise.

Panic! Not at a disco though.

NaNoWriMo word count: 7306 / 50000oh noes!

I’m about two days behind schedule, even though I haven’t started writing today yet. Oh but good news! And bad news to come with it! I got an 85 on my math test! Woot! Bad news is, it was out of 110, so and 85 is still a C. Boohoo. I’m studying for for my essay test in bio tomorrow. Genetics problems confuse me. I didn’t read the chapters this time around very well since I did a lot of this type of stuff last year in Science Olympiad. Of course I’ve forgotten a lot of it since then.

Also, I love this old song “Anything you can do” or something. It’s been in Winamp on repeat since a few hours ago, when I first started homework. Hum. In other news, it seems like my tablet is trying to communicate with me, poor thing. You know those high frequency sounds that only kids and stuff can hear? I’ve discovered that my tablet it emitting those sounds. It’s kinda freaky but alright, I’ll ignore it. I hope it’s not breaking. I’ve only had it for about 2 years.

Also, it was freezing today. Yes it’s San Diego, the land of eternal sunshine. The other land of eternal sunshine is someplace in Florida, but they have hurricanes there all the time while San Diego doesn’t. Hah! Except we have firestorms every few years. Horrible. Anyways, it’s cold. I wore this thick sweater to school, and I’m wearing a scarf right now and I’m thinking about making earmuffs. I have no socks on, which makes it worse. Warm oatmeal is good on cold days. And baking. Oh yes, baking is good on cold days. It warms the house and makes it smell nice too.

I don’t know where I’m going with my NaNoWriMo story. I sort of had a plan in October, but it’s deviated and digressed off to a different path, darker at first, and then completely shifting gears and becoming a silly kind of story. There are painfully obvious plot devices used; it’s killing my inner editor. Ugh. I want to go to a journalism convention in Philadelphia. But I’m not in journalism class. Those lucky kids got to fly in a plane. Lucky bums.

Okay, my mommy is staring over my shoulder now. I probably should uh… Go study or something. Hahahaha. Uh actually, it’s about time for me to start writing. ESSAYS. Naw, more stuff for NaNo. Hmph. GOODBYE.

NaNoWriMo word count: 6374/50000tiiiired

I’m pretty far behind. Let’s hope the day off next Monday will be overly productive so I can catch up. My mother doesn’t approve of my writing this. Because I have like, a C in Calc. Argh. I’ve gotten retarded grades on every single test and quiz in that class it’s ridiculous. I understand it, but I don’t. Argh. I just suck at math.

I’ve updated with 2 new pages of Doctor Rocket, though it’s nothing Flora’d be interested in since she already saw them (boohoo disappointment). Although… feel free to copy her example and ADVERTISE it for me! Hurrah! Uh, yeah it’s getting harder for me to make time to draw. Unless I’m super energetic.

So tired. Siigh. I still have US to read. Then shower. Then write more for NaNo.

Nothing eventful happened today. Except for a bio test that was incredibly time-consuming because of those dreadful genetics problems. Eurgh. It took me forever to do them, and since I barely remember what I read in the chapters, I think I didn’t do so well on it. Imaging, I was bored. I was working in Imageready and my rollover just wouldn’t do what it was supposed to. I hate working in imageready. But because I was bored, I did doodle this thingummy of Mister Rocket. Even though it’s like, a kid or something.

Oh! Speaking of Ryan Rocket. I made him up in 6th grade, but back then his name was Rai. Or Rye. Or however you’d like to spell it. It was still pronounced RAH-EEEEEEE. Okay, so maybe not that many E’s. But yes. I also made Kent, Milla, and Shon (except Shon wasn’t his name. It was um… Shackle. Haha) a year later. They grow up in real time! Woohoo! Or at least, I draw them differently when I got older. Haha. Ryan Rocket used to have longer hair. And like, that evil wing headband from RO.

Yup. Time to get back to work. I’ve wasted enough time already. Argh.

Or rather.

ARRRGGHH!! *sob*

ASDF!

So.A part of my intellect just melted.

SO!

I thought I got a 2110 on the October SAT. Welllllll. That was a LIE. Hahahahahaha. I have no idea how I messed up the calculations, but it’s now a 2090! Joy! Okay. Actually, I’m really angry right now. With a 2110, I had hopes, albeit small, of getting into an awesome UC (BERKLEY!) but with a 2090, the prospect of that just went right out the window. A 2090 looks like it’ll only qualify for a middle tier UC (Santa Barbara, Irvine, Davis?) because my grades aren’t really high at all. Argh. So angry. I’ve registered for the January 26th test in ‘08. I think I’m gonna cry.

So now things to do!

-Rememorize those 2000 SAT vocab words
-Go through every single practice test from my SAT book and from Elite
-Thoroughly study everything single math packet, reading packet, and writing packet from Elite boot camp and extension sessions
-Not play so much video games. Hold off on Phantom Hourglass until it’s over
-Be stressed out
-Cry
-Study for SAT IIs
-Write 48,288 more words for NaNoWriMo
-All of the above while simultaneously doing all those projects, studying for AP tests, and writing papers and doing homework

Holy crap man. I’m not gonna have a social life this year. Not that I already do. What IS this? Why is this time of life so stressful? It’ll be even worse when I get into college. That is, IF I get into college. Man. I hate high school. D:

I’m behind already. I gotta wright 3334 words today.

NaNoWriMo START!

 Lark!3:07 PM
Word count: 0/50,000

I’m going to be doing some history homework before dinner and stuff. It’ll take quite a bit of time. Hopefully I can finish by dinnertime so that I can devote my night to writing. I’ve started another notebook to scribble down ideas and inspiration just for this event.  It’s about 2 pages filled by the end of school today, because school can be an inspiring place if you think about it. I have no idea where my story’s going to go though. Actually, I do. I just…. don’t know the specifics. Haha. I’ve beaten Pheonix Wright 3 today and it is, in my humble opinion, the best of the three in Phoenix’s arc. The ending was touching and awesome. I love all the characters because they all have such tragic stories and what happens to them is very interesting. :’D

Oh yeah. I also drew some comic pages that had really no direction whatsoever; it was random. It’s just scanned in with a small amount of tweaking with the levels so that it can be read clearer. No real editing or cleaning was involved. You can find them at my photobucket account.

Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3 | Page 4

I’ve also made an icon with easytoon, which is a fun little pixel flipbook type program. Very simple to use. It’s the icon a few lines up. It’s actually 200×200 with no red border but I played with it in imageready to make it somewhat icon-worthy.  I’ll be continuously updating my word count from now on. Now I’m off to do some intense history work.

Ciao~

Turnabout Beginnings

Posted in Daily with tags , , on October 28, 2007 by superlark

I cried. Oh gosh, I cried during a video game.

Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations, otherwise known as Gyakuten Saiban 3… The way the fourth case ends made me feel terrible. Uggh. I just finished it a few seconds ago. Terry Fawles… It was tragic. I won’t say anything to spoil it. But it makes me hate that Dahlia Hawthorne even more than before. Wow. The people at Capcom… What’s his name? Shu Takumi and his gang, GENIUSES. I don’t know what kind of effect writing murder mysteries would have on their lives, but it makes for crazy good plot line for a video game. Which reminds me, I think I might love the Capcom translation team at this moment. The whole “Your… precious… UURRRRRRRNN!!” and “1337aZnPr1nc355″ as well as “SPARDA” makes it all worthwhile, amongst other factors. Even the names of the GS4 characters don’t seem horrible now.

Right, spurred on by PW3, I’ve doodled several new pictures at my friend’s oekaki board located here. Taha. Shameless plug.

Things are church are still boiling. It’s going to keep boiling for another while.

Other than that, nothing new to report. School resumes tomorrow after last week’s fire. I’ll be going to Gamestop to pick up my Phoenix plushie and maybe get my hands on Phantom Hourglass. NaNoWriMo begins November 1st. I’ve got a vague thing in mind. I’ll make the plot up along as we go… even though that’s not a good habit. Hahaha…. 1666.66 words to write per day… I’m doomed.
